Dear all,

If you have been following the NRAS website ,blog and social media activity closely, you will have noticed that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced it will reassess its original decision to tighten the higher rate mobility criteria for the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) from 50 metres to 20 metres and is conducting a new consultation on this.

NRAS is now in the process of putting together a response to the consultation to put forward a case for reverting back to the 50 metre criteria. As part of this we have collected a number of individual case studies to highlight the human impact of losing DLA payments. However, we need all the information we can get to make a really strong argument for change that the Government will have to take notice of.

Therefore, we have put together a survey which will help show the true impact of the tightening of the mobility eligibility criteria on people with rheumatoid arthritis. We need as many people as possible to fill out this survey we would be hugely grateful if NRAS members would please complete the following questions in full, which should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete. The link is below:

Please rest assured that all results will be added up and made anonymous. Also, comments will not be attributed to any individuals as we want to encourage as much honest feedback as possible in order to help improve local services.

Ailsa Bosworth, Chief Executive at NRAS, said: “This consultation is an important opportunity for people with rheumatoid arthritis to explain the potentially devastating impact these changes could have on their lives.

“I strongly urge anyone with the disease fill in this short and simple survey so NRAS can document the likely impacts and build a strong case to change the walking distance criteria.”
This is your chance to make the Government and DWP sit up and listen, so don’t miss out.

The survey closes at midnight on Sunday 04 August 2013.
